This monster is waiting to take something you can never get back—your time.

There’s a monster lurking in the shadows. In every corner and in every place you find yourself, there is this monster just waiting to take something from you that can never be gotten back. That one irreplaceable asset that this monster lives on is your time. It will suck the very life out of you, your family, your life and your dreams. So what is this monster called? Its name is Distraction and until you know how to kill it, it will be in your life forever.
We must learn to kill the monster we call Distraction so that we can be more productive.

Let’s get to know this monster better. Here is its job description: “Something that makes it difficult to think or pay attention; something that amuses or entertains you so that you do not think about problems, work, etc.; a state in which you are very annoyed or upset.”
Even as I write this article, the distractions are hitting me from all sides. Little sounds, cute pets, TV, radio, the internet, phone, laptop, and this list could go on and on. No matter what we are doing in our day, we must learn to kill the monster we call Distraction so that we can be more productive.
Here are five ways that we can create a better “distraction free” environment:
1. Be your own cheerleader.
Most people put this power in others’ hands and hope that they will become their cheerleader. We have to be able to inspire ourselves to greatness. In the face of failure, we have to be able to inspire ourselves, pick ourselves up, and shake off the dust and move on.
2. Stay active.
We should be getting up about every thirty minutes and walk around the house, yard, block, etc. When we sit for too long, it is bad for our health, and we can easily slip into this lethargic state of “lost.”
3. Have water and a healthy snack available.
This helps us stay focused and cuts the cravings. The right healthy snacks fuel our body with energy that enables us to stay focused and productive.
4. Stay organized in all areas.
Clutter around us creates clutter inside of us. I know you might be saying it doesn’t, but it does. Clutter disrupts and can create stress and even anger.
5. Create a peaceful environment.
Now this is different for all. Because all of our different likes, health conditions, and so on, a peaceful environment has to be based on the individual. A certain style of music, candle, or sounds can create the perfect environment.
These are just five of many steps that can be used as weapons to defeat the distraction monster. Take these tips things and create a pre-flight checklist that will enable you to reach your greatest potential.
